Overview
OEMs with existing cloud solutions can choose to connect their devices to Xyte Connect+ via a Cloud-to-Cloud connector.
By integrating their devices into the shared Connect+ cloud, OEMs enable their customers to manage those devices alongside a wide range of products from other manufacturers—significantly increasing the overall value and interoperability of their offering.
The Cloud-to-Cloud connector is an integral part of the Xyte infrastructure and shares many of the same Device and End-Customer APIs.
Key benefits include:
- Seamless onboarding of large accounts
- Automatic synchronization of settings, tenant structures, and device data
- An independent cloud software package, which is easier to develop and maintain than updating the firmware of existing devices
Requirements
The Cloud-to-Cloud connector requires modifications to the OEM’s existing cloud software—or, alternatively, the development of a new software component that synchronizes data between the two clouds.
Engineering expertise in web technologies and API integration is recommended.
Connector Types
There are two types of connectors, depending on the capabilities of the partner’s existing cloud:
- Device-Level Only Connector
- Full Cloud-to-Cloud Connector
Device-Level Connector
This type of connector synchronizes device data only. All end-customer and tenant management is handled within the Xyte portal. Customers claim their devices exclusively through Xyte and interact with the partner’s cloud only when necessary.
Recommended for the following scenarios:
- The existing cloud does not support end-customer management or development of this functionality is currently paused.
- The existing cloud is used solely for configuring single-instance devices.
- The partner prefers to avoid confusing customers by requiring them to use and train their teams on multiple cloud environments.
For more details, see Device-Level Only Connector.
Full Cloud-to-Cloud Connector
This connector type automatically synchronizes end-customer data created in the partner’s cloud, including space structures, claimed devices, configurations, and more.
With this approach, customers of the partner cloud can set up a continuous, automatic synchronization with their Xyte account. The connector will replicate the space structure within Xyte, claim all devices, and keep both clouds synchronized.
Recommended for the following scenarios:
- The existing cloud requires end customers to register, create tenants, claim devices, and configure them.
For more details, see Full Cloud-to-Cloud Connectors.
